Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. Expands Staff Counsel Operations

Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. has announced the hiring of Elizabeth Dotson and Matthew Schaefer as Staff Counsel. Dotson and Schaefer join the holding company’s litigation team and will be responsible for workers’ compensation litigation defense in Kansas and Missouri.

“We are excited to welcome Liz and Matt to our team,” said Michael Reid, Director of Litigation, Subrogation and Medicare of Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. “They both bring impressive expertise and a proven track record of success in Kansas and Missouri litigation. These are the first of several Staff Counsel additions, as we look to grow the national Staff Counsel operation. We have seen that utilizing talented and proactive staff counsel reduces legal expenses and more importantly provides better litigation results.”

Dotson brings 14 years of experience in workers’ compensation litigation defense. Prior to joining Accident Fund Holdings, Inc., she served as a shareholder at McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips, where she was responsible for defending employers, insurance carriers and third party administrators in workers’ compensation claims in Kansas and Missouri.

Dotson holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Washburn University and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from University of New Mexico. She is actively involved with Harvest Ball Society, where she is a member of the board of directors. She served for many years on the board of directors for the Children’s Museum of Kansas City and is active in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s workers’ compensation committee.

Schaefer brings 13 years of experience in Kansas workers’ compensation litigation defense. Prior to joining Accident Fund Holdings, Inc., he was a partner at McDonald, Tinker, Skaer, Quinn and Herrington where he was responsible for representing insurance carriers, third party administrators and employers in workers’ compensation claims in the State of Kansas. Prior to that, he held various litigation positions, including commercial real estate and bankruptcy defense.

Schaefer also holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Washburn University and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from Wichita State University. He has previously served on the board of directors for the American Red Cross. Schaefer is a member of the Wichita Bar Association, Kansas Bar Association and the Wichita Young Lawyers Association.
